Q: where can i find the transmission fluid drain on a 1990 honda accord?
Im trying to change the fluid on my 1990 Honda Accord and I cant seem to find the drain for my transmission. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If there isnt a drain plug then where can I drain it from?

A: there is no pan on a 1990 honda accord... if it is an automatic, it has a round plug with a 3/8" square in it (for a ratchet to fit in), fill throught the dipstick tube. it will be located at the bottom of the transmission facing away from the engine. if manual, it will be a 17mm plug at the bottom of the transmission, but you will want to remove the fill plug first, which will be located on the front side (facing the radiator) about 1/2 way up the transmission. either one will be located so it drains away from the engine, on the side of the trans, not the very bottom.

Q: 1990 Honda Accord will not start occasionally?
1990 Honda Accord occasionally (like a couple times a month) will not start. Usually this happens after it was running and then restarted. My boyfriends does the same thing, but his has something to do with the sport button on the shifter. Could it be an ignition terminal or ignition coil causing the problem?

A: Need a little more info. Does it not "crank" , crank but not "fire", or kind-of starts but dies. Is it an auto transmission? Does it matter if it's hot or cold outside? What changes take place before it starts? For example do you let it sit for 30 minutes? Do you just keep trying and after 5-6 tries it starts? Also have you noticed any change in your car lately. Does it idle rough, gas millage different, any recent repairs? Sorry I don't have an easy answer.

Q: does anybody know where the idle adjusting screw is on a 1990 honda accord?
im looking to adjust the idle on my 1990 honda accord. does anyone know where the adjusting screw is on the throttle body?

A: there is a plug over the idle speed adjustment. You can pop it out with a ice pick or small screwdriver then do the adjustment (you don't have to replace it) It is located on the passenger side of the injector housing or control body or whatever! Stand just behind your right front wheel, lean under the hood and you should see it. The plug is about 3/8" diameter.

Q: where is the fuel pump relay on a 1990 honda accord?
I am looking for the fuel pump relay on a 1990 honda accord. I want to check this before I start changing the fuel pump. Any help would be greatly appreciated.......

A: it is located under the dash on the drivers side, it has seven terminals and is refered to as the main fuel injection relay. if you want to test the pump, use a paperclip to jumper the black with yellow tracer and the yellow with black tracer wires together, the pump should run. in some models of accords they used a solid yellow wire in place of the yellow/black wire. good luck.

Q: What does this TCM code mean on a 1990 Honda Accord?
I have a 1990 Honda Accord. The transmission has taken to getting stuck in 2nd when the engine is warm. When it's cold everything works fine. My husband checked the TCM code. The red light is flashing 6 short, 1 long, 5 short and repeat. However we can't find out what this code means. Does anybody know what the code means or where we can find a list of the codes for the Honda Accord? We already tried the official Honda site with no luck. Thanks

Q: Whats wrong with my 1990 Honda accord?
I have a 1990 honda accord with a 1998 vtec engine in it and somedays days it will start and go all day but other days it won't start no matter what I do. What do you think this could be? Yes it does have a 1998 motor. I did an engine swap.

A: You have a main relay problem Been there, done that, on my 1990 Honda Accord. "The Stormtrooper" had a bit of a sick spell, where some days, she'd start, and others she'd fail me. So, after spending 100 bucks to figure out what was wrong, I had to replace it, 200 dollars more later. Worst thing was, if I had done it myself, it would have only cost 70...

Q: Should I buy a used main relay for my 1990 Honda Accord?
The main relay in my 90 Honda Accord is defective like most early 90 model Accords. I can find a used, inexpensive one on Ebay. Should I be concerned that the used one might be defective or would it be safe to buy a used main relay to put in my car?

A: the relay is basically two sets of metal contacts and two windings of wire. when current flows through the coil windings it creates a magnetic field and pulls the metal contacts together. they are relatively simple devices. on the accord the problem was that the circuit board at the base of the relay cracks and causes the circuit board to separate when the interior temperature of the vehicle rises. there is no way to tell if the circuit board on your Ebay relay is cracked or not without taking that relay apart. the original relays had about a 100% failure rate. I don't know the age of the one on Ebay; if its a replacement relay that was purchased in the last 5 years then it should be trouble free. if its 5-10 years old its probably good--I'd guess an 80-90% chance that it will never fail. if its over 10 years old I'd stay away from it. the new relay is about $50 at a Honda dealer. If you're feeling lucky, go for the Ebay relay. hope that helps

Q: 1990 Honda Accord Sports light comes on then Speedometer needle starts to bounce?
YES I will Buy a Repair manual and check the wiring when the car comes in ...in the morning... But just seeing if anyone has had this problem on their Honda... My Boss has a 1990 Honda Accord ... When driving the the sports light comes on then the Speedometer starts to jump ??? I have it down to check Alterator,,, wiring at trans switch,,, check reverse lock out switch and harness. Thanks Spinner

A: the sports light is an indication that the electronic control system for the transmission has detected a problem with the system. There are about 15 different potential causes but if it happens when your speedometer needle starts to bounce the problem is almost certainly with the vehicle speed sensor. the vehicle speed sensor is mounted on top of the transmission. It serves two purposes. the first is to send a signal to the speedometer that is converted to the speed that the speedometer displays through the gauge cluster. the second function is to give the control unit information on vehicle speed so that the cotnrol unit knows when to shift the automatic transmission. in your case, the speed sensor is dropping out and the speedo needle bounces when it loses and regains the signal from the sensor. the S light is on because the powertrain control unit is losing the signal from the vehicle speed sensor as well. I'm sure you'll find that if you replace the vehicle speed sensor both the problem with the S light and the speedometer needle bounce will go away. hope that helps

Q: how many miles can a 1990 honda accord last?
Hi Iam ready to buy a honda accord for about 1300-1400$ but the cars ima looking at have around 190000-210000 miles on them. So Iam woundering about how long can this car last. Also what kind of oil would be the best for a car this kind of mileage and protect my engine from wear and tear and the oil that i can get more horse power out of the oil.

A: I think you are better off looking for a better car and paying a bit more now than in the near future to repair it. Its true that a car can last over 200K miles, but do you have ALL maintenance records to know that the previous owner really did take good care of the car? If you do decide to purchase this car, synthetic oil is the way to go
