Q: How to evaluate an automatic transmission when buying a car? (Honda 2000 Accord V6)?
I bought a 2000 Honda Accord V6, automatic, with 72K miles. The car was inspected by a general mechanic (results good), and has never had any problems.
However, this model is known to have transmission problems; there was a major lawsuit Honda settled. I have about one year of warranty, and I want to make sure that, if there is a potential problem at all I get it fixed before the warranty expires.
Is there a way to test for "early warning signs?" I have driven manual transmission cars all my life so I don't know what to look or listen for. Thanks in advance for your answers.
A: Best bet is a certified transmission shop that you know to be reputable! There are some field test like holding the brake pedal firmly, putting the vehicle in gear and stepping on the accelerator and see if it wants to jump ahead or back. If it does nothing it is more than likely slipping. Also, check the fluid and make sure it is nice and pink, not brown. Feel it between your fingers and if it has a gritty feeling, it has metal within the fluid which is a sure sign of future problems.
Many people change the oil but never service the transmission -every 15,000 miles!
Q: How do you replace factory tweeters in 2000 Honda Accord?
I have a 2000 honda accord coupe. It has factory tweeters in the dash. How do you get to them? Do you have to pull the dash, or does the grill come off?

Q: How do I make my 2000 Honda Accord Howl?
I have a 2000 Honda Accord, everything stock. AUTOMATIC
What do I need to install for my car to make it sound like a bad boy? Meaning while reving it.
A: get a Cold Air Intake. .. it gives you the engine growl without a ricer can in the back. and it will give you a couple more miles per gallon and a little more horsepower.
Q: What are some cheap ways to make my 2000 Honda Accord run better and faster?
I have a 2000 Honda Accord and i wanted to know if there were any cheap ways to make it run better and faster ?
A: Modifying cars is not a cheap hobby. Lucky for you that you have one of the cheapest cars to modify. Honda makes some great cars and thus they sell a lot. That is also why Honda has very large aftermarket support. There are many companies that make products for the Accord. Unfortunately if you are looking for serious power gains it is hard to come by unless you are ready to spend some big money.
Bolt-Ons are your best bet here. Intake, exhaust, and headder. AEM makes some of the best intakes for the money. They are a little pricy compared to E-Bay intakes and all but always remember when working on a car, you get what you pay for. AEMs intakes are engineered for the car. Make sure to get a CAI (Cold Air Intake) as opposed to a "Short Ram". Short ram intakes will give you slightly better throttle response but not real power. That is cased because of many reasons including the fact that they are sucking up hotter air from the engine bay. But the issue with CAIs is that they can injest water in bad flood situations which can hydrolock your engine making it useles.
Exhaust has multiple parts to it. You can change your Exhaust Muffler for a better flowing one and also you can change your pipes to 2.25 inch pipes. This will help a little.
Headder is another thing to get. I would sudgest a 4-2-1 headder as opposed to the 4-1 headder. That will give you the power in mid range as opposed to high range.
With these boltons you may gain about 10 HP or so. Not too much.
Another thing is tires. Make sure you have the correct size for what you are doing.
If you want more power then you would be looking into cams and valve jobs and eventually into forced induction which is not cheap.
Q: 2000 Honda Accord? Is it a good car or is that just a word of mouth?
I am currently about to purchase a 2000 Honda Accord with 60000 miles... It was bought as is from Farmers Insurance. I am trying to figure out if 1) it is a good car? 2) Does anyone know of a site I can run a VIN check thats not so high and still get all the necessary information on the car. Thank you.
A: i have the same exact car. i loooooooove mine. mine is a coupe 4 cyl with tons of upgrades. thats the cool things bout honda. if you do buy it. before you do ask to take it for a test drive and take it to a mechanic to get it all checked out. make sure it wasnt in accident ( bent frame ) take it to a mechanic you have dealt with before. tell him the situation usually not the local midas cuz they will lie and say its fine then you buy it and have to take it to them..... make sure when they inspect it stand there by where they are and ask them questions. even if you dont know anything about cars if you make yourself involved you can learn more and they are less likely to lie to you!
Q: How to change Idle Air Control Valve on a 2000 Honda Accord V6?
I have a 2000 Honda Accord EX V6. I tried to replace the IACV today but there's just too many things in the way. I was wondering if anyone can give me some suggestions on how to change the IACV. Thanks a lot!
A: Take it to honda and let them do it
Q: Can you replace the automatic transmission in a 2000 Honda Accord 2.3 with a auto tranny from a 1997 Accord?
I recently purchased a 2000 Accord 2.3 . The transmission is slipping and needs to be replaced. I would like to use the transmission from the 1997 Accord I have. I know they bolt right up but I hear that they don't work. Has anyone ever done this? I hear that you need to do something with the ecu or electrical?
A: The controller may not be happy - which will leave you stranded.
It sounds like it would be an easier job to repair the transmission instead of replacing it.
Q: How can I manually turn off the check engine light from my 2000 Honda Accord?
My 2000 Honda Accord turned on the Check Engine warning light last week, I know that htere is nothing wrong as I keep the maintenance updated.
I just don't wants to get rip off by the dealer shop for just turn this light off.
A: Cars built after 1996 have a diagnostic system referred to as OBD-II (for On-Board Diagnostics - Generation 2). Part of the OBD-II standard requires that the ECU be able to maintain the trouble code even in the event of a power loss, so diconnecting the battery or shutting off the engine will not work.
That being said, the computer will erase some codes by itself (the loose gas cap is a good example, this comes up as an 'Evap system vacuum leak' code), if the car is started a few times once the problem has been corrected. Most codes, however, have to be reset using the proper OBD-II scan tool. Beware, if you erase a code without fixing the problem that caused the computer to flash the 'check engine' light, the code will just pop right back up. Go to your local Autozone, Pep Boys, Checker, etc., they can read the code for you for free as well as reset the light once the problem is fixed.
Just remember, just because there is not an apparent problem with the car does not mean there is nothing wrong. The computer is illuminating the 'check engine' light for a reason.

Q: How do I increase the brake's stopping power of my 2000 Honda Accord?
I want to increase the brake's stopping power of my 2000 Honda Accord. Even though I have new brake pads from the dealer, it is not as powerful as the brakes of my BMW 325. What can I install to improve its stopping power?
A: I also own an '00 Accord (LX, V6), and have done some things to improve braking efficiency.
Basically it's about how much $$$ you want to spend. Personally, I would avoid dropping the $2,300 on a BREMBO front brake set. That's a lot of money to pick up efficiency, especially considering how the factory stock brakes are plenty good for all reasonable service uses.
Searching the Internet will also reveal a mid-priced front brake upgrade kit for around $600 - $700. It features slotted/cross-drilled rotors, upgraded calipers, and upgraded brake lines.
A cheaper way to go is to make sure you're using ceramic brake pads, and install aftermarked cross-drilled rotors. This upgrade will reduce brake 'fade' which accounts for the perception of poor braking capability during hard stop-start driving episodes. This upgrade also reduces the operating temperature of the rotors which in turn reduces the likeliness that your rotors will warp...less chance of experiencing brake pedal pulsations due to warped rotors. Also, the parts involved here cost roughly under $300.
I also added (Neuspeed) stainless steel brake lines. SS lines eliminate any 'sponginess' feel at the brake pedal. Experts debate whether this upgrade is really worth the effort for street sedans. However, since you were using your BMW as a reference, SS lines added to your Accord might suit your fancy.
Q: Is there a way to alter tail-lights for 2001-2002 honda accord to fit a 2000 honda accord?
I like the tail-lights for 2001-2002 honda accord model more than 2000 honda accord model
A: yes it will fit.
Q: Should I keep my 2000 Honda Accord LX or 1997 Acura Integra LS?
I own a 2000 Honda Accord with 78k miles, but SRS light is on and I was told by the Honda dealership that is expensive to repair. My sister wants to sell me her 1997 Acura Intregra 48k miles and is in very good condition but I find the car too small. Do you which car is more reliable? Thanks!
A: As a used car salesman, I'd say it depends on the condition or each car and how it was maintained. The SRS light will cost lots less if you find a used airbag control module. Then have a local guy put it in. Or, just go without an airbag. People did it for years.
Q: where are the sunroof relays located in a 2000 honda accord ex coupe?
where are the sunroof relays located in a 2000 honda accord ex coupe?
A: there are two relays for the sunroof; an open relay and a close relay.
they are located behind the left front kick panel (under the dash to the left of where the driver's left foot would be when seated in the car) there are two relays that are interchangable at the top and to the front of the kick panel when the kick panel is removed.
if the sunroof won't open swap the two relays; if it opens then the open relay is bad. if it doesn't open then go to the switch next (assuming the fuses are okay)
hope that helps
