Q: What would cause a 2006 Honda CRV dashboard to flash and reverse the guages on startup when it is freezing?
We park our Honda outdoors and when the temp goes below freezing, the dash flickers on and off (including the center console features), all of the guages (tach, fuel, oil, speedometer) drop down and knock against the pegs at the bottom. The trip meters on the odometer also reset to 0 each time and the seatbelt alarm beeps until the driver buckles it. The colder it is the longer this lasts but it does go away when the engine warms up. I've had it in the shop twice but they haven't found the problem. Any ideas before I take it in a third time with no results?

A: I'm presuming you have been taking it back to the dealers shop? Mysterious problems like that can sometimes be isolated by having the dealer search service bulletins...if they have none similar, they should also report it to the district/home office design engineers. It may be a single instance, or it may be a model problem that needs some type of recall. At any rate, the people who designed it need to get involved. Taking it to a "generic" repair shop probably won't help much with something like that.

Q: how do you turn off the mainteance required light on a 2006 honda CRV?
the light is a warning light on the dashboard. It came on at 50,000 miles.

A: If it is like our accord, you have to turn off the key, push in the trip odometer and hold, turn on the key, holding the trip odometer button for ten seconds. It should go off. It is in the owners manual but is a pain to look up. Try it. Howard is talking about the check engine light - that means you have a emmisions failure and need a code checker to clear. They cost about $100 or so.

Q: Does anyone have a 2006 Honda CRV that frequently gets cracks or scratches on the windshield?
I have owned several other cars and have never had this problem. My friend has a Honda Odyssey minivan and they have the same problem. I really love the car/suv overall but wonder if maybe the glass is cheap or not as well made as the cars I've had in the past. I do alot of highway driving but I did in my old car too. My friend with the Odyssey doesn't do much highway driving and has the same problem.

A: I own one, have for about 6 months. I have not had that problem. Could it perhaps be a result of where you drive? Through construction on the way to work? On Highway with a bunch of trucks? Sorry about the bad luck.

Q: Why is it that when I wash my 2006 Honda CRV by hand the brakes make this screeching noise?
Should I be careful not to spray water in the wheel so it dosen't go on the brakes?

A: Brake discs are made of pretty soft steel and there is no rust preventive in the brake discs. The screeching noise comes from water or moisture accumulating on the brake discs and then rusting. If you are in the right climate, you can expect the discs to rust over in about 1/2 an hour. The brownish color of rust can be worn off in a few miles, but it is better to drive the car around the block as soon as you finish the wash job. Applying the brakes and getting the discs warm in a mile or two should be enough to keep the discs from rusting. Sintered metallic brake pads also can form a thin film of rust dust, but it too, should wear off in a few laps around the block.

A: Three.

Q: I have a 2006 Honda CRV Automatic - when I tried to put it into 2 gear, gear, the shift would not move. I can
I have a 2006 Honda CRV Automatic - when I tried to put it into 2 gear, gear, the shift would not move. I can only drive it in Drive (1st).

A: Im not quite sure i understand the problem correctly, but if you mean that you can only put it in the main drive gear, but not the other lower speed gears, the problem could be your transmission has a lock that you have to turn to have your low speed gears available, or there is a button on your gearshift somewhere to let the gearshift move down into those gears. Check your owners manual

Q: How to fit side steps to my Honda Crv (2006 model)
I have the steps and all the fittings but I am not sure how to remove the trim to enable me to lift the carpets to do the interior work.

A: You shouldn't have to attach anything inside the car to fit side steps - they usually have mounting points on the chassis rails. You certainly shouldn't have to lift any carpets, everything should be attached from underneath.

Q: Please recommend the best tires for the 2006 Honda CRV EX.?
I live in an area which gets lake effect snow but the roads are not that bad most of the time because of the constant snow removal. I have done some research and here's what I found: Goodyear Fortera, Dayton Timberline HT, BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO. A treadwear warranty of more than 50K, at least a 400 rating, max load over 1900, speed rating of S or T. Please provide your comments and recommendations. Thanks.

A: I myself am not a fan of many tires out there. Most are hard compound, don't give good traction when its needed, etc. Specially with a SUV and being top heavy, sometimes that extra bite is really needed in an emergency type move. I prefer Michelin or Pirelli. Most think these are all high price tires. Here is a search I ran on www.tirerack.com for those two makes and your CR-V. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compare1.jsp?width=215%2F&ratio=65&diameter=16&autoYear=2006&diameter=16&sortCode=45450&minLoad=S&ratio=65&autoMake=Honda&autoModClar=&minSpeedRating=S&width=215%2F&autoModel=CR-V&vehicleSearch=true&startIndex=0&search=true&pagelen=20&pagenum=1&pagemark=1&manufacturer=Michelin&manufacturer=Pirelli&speed_rating=S&speed_rating=T&RunFlat=None&x=58&y=10 All in the $80-$100 range, same price range as most other tires. And both of these makes are great in all weather. I myself have had 3 sets of the Pirelli's and they are great in the snow. I would recommend the Pirelli P4 all season or any of the Michelin all season.

Q: how much is the going rate of a 2006 honda crv 2wd?

A: $18 to $20,000 expect to pay slightly more, the higher gas prices go.

Q: Honda Crv 2006?
Hi i have a Honda Crv 2006 2.2 ictdi, can anyone tell me why the max towing weight is so low its 1500kg the car weighs 1637kg, The Landrover freelander is more or less the same weight but can pull 2000kg?? Thanx for the comment, the engine is a 2.2 138bhp where the freelander is a 2.0 111 bhp

A: The engine is not really designed to tow alot of weight. It IS a suv, but the kind that soccer moms use, not the kind you would buy to pull a boat or trailer around with. The Landrover is.

Q: I bought 2006 Honda CRV. Gas pump clicks and I can get in 4 gallons more. Does this happen to anybody else?

A: Have your gas tank vent system checked for leaks or a bad check valve. The dealer can pressure test the system or sometimes your local emission test can check it for free.

Q: what weight can a 2006 Honda CRV 2.2CTDI sport tow & what is the best tow bar to fit?

A: According to Honda that car can to a 1.5 ton boat on a braked trailer. I would suggest witter tow bars.

Q: Compare the 2006 Toyota Rav4 and the 2006 Honda CRV?

A: I personally don't like the look of Honda CRV (especially the rear), a bit too cheap. Also I heard CRV auto transmission isn't reliable at high mileage (considering it's a Honda we have very high expectations). So I would recommend 2006 Toyota RAV4. The only problem with RAV4 is too many features are optional and you have to pay extra $$$, like moonroof, side airbags, ...

Q: how to remove 2006 honda crv radio?

A: This is a previous model, may not help but check this website periodically to see when it's updated
