Q: 2006 Honda Element Automatic Door Locks?
My husband and I just bought a 2006 Honda Element EX-P. We were hoping that the doors would automatically lock once we reached a pre-determined speed (maybe 15-20 mph) We can't seem to find any information about this in the manual. Do any of you have experience with this or know if it is even possible?
I know we can call the dealer, but I thought I'd check here first.
Thanks for your help!
A: you have to set the lock sequence using a brake code to do this go to a honda dealer
Q: 2006 Honda Element will not start?
I have a 2006 Element that is about 17 months old and as of Saturday, it does not start. I put in the key and I dont even get a click or anything that says the engine is trying to start. My headlights do come on, as well as all the lights near the odometer. This all started last Saturday and took into the dealership for the 20K maintenace which when i called another Honda dealership was told does not exist. I asked them to check the starter but of course it did start for them. I need help. I will be taking it in to them tomorrow for the second time cia tow truck. This time they might believe me.
A: Either 1, there is no connection at the battery or it is very poor, or 2 the starter is near shot. The dealer should be able to figure it out out for you.
However, with a voltmeter you could rule out the start, while having the meter connected you should read 12.3-12.6 volts roughly. Have someone turn the key to start, if the voltage drops to the high 10's or low 11's and there is no start, it is a starter issue.
If it drops far lower than that the battery is low.
If you still have no change it could be the ignition switch
Q: Looking for input on 2006 Honda Element front end noise.?
I have a 2006 Honda Element LX AWD. I keep experiencing and intermittent growling/vibration type noise (but no actual vibration), especially at 60+ mph. The noise appears to be coming from the drivers side front wheel. Will happen once in a while when I hit a small bump of when turn the wheel slightly. Dealer claims it cannot duplicate the condition and that bushings and front end assemblies were inspected and are fine. Any idea what might cause this? Thank you.
A: I wouldn't worry about it too much especially since your not feeling anything. But i would recommend looking around and feeling the various different parts and components to see if anything is loose in that area.
Q: 2006 Honda Element - engine dies?
I have a 2006 Honda Element and in the passed two weeks, two separate occasions i have been driving the car when all of a sudden the steering wheel locks and the car turns off. Both times i have been going about 25-30 mph and no lights come on or anything. All of a sudden the steering wheel clicks and locks and the next thing i know the car is off. When i put the car back in park and turn the ignition off and turn it on again the car starts perfectly and drives perfectly. It has happened twice in one week. Any idea what is wrong here? I took it to two Honda dealerships and neither place can find anything wrong with the car but I am scared to drive it in case the car turns off when i am on the freeway. I have never had an accident in the car and it has less than 15k miles on it. Does anyone know what might be happening here? Has this happened to anyone else? Thank you!
A: There has been a couple of reports of this. Being a 2006, it should still be under warranty and the dealer should repair and report the problem. The current diagnosis is a defective ignition switch. When vibrated, it opens the contact from the main power wire causing the car to go into the parked mode. Engine off and wheel locked. Bring it in ASAP because the problem will only get worse and more frequent.
Q: Why would my 2006 Honda Element with 12,300 miles already need an alignment?
Why would my 2006 Honda Element with 12,300 miles on it already need an alignment?
I got a letter in the mail stating that it was time to bring my Honda in for a 10,000 maintenance check. I took it and they checked the battery, hoses, fluid levels and changed the oil. They went to rotate and balance my tires and the tech showed me excessive wear on the rear tires in the inside. He said it looked as if I had over 30,000 miles on these tires. I told him that I take care of my vehicle (I have had it since July 06) and why would it look like that He said it may need an alignment. I don't understand why it would need an alignment so soon because I treat this car as if it were a baby! I was reading the warranty book and it looks like they will cover it if there is no more than 12,000 miles on it. Should I pay for an alignment. Should I put up a fight and make them pay? Also, what other causes would cause a car to wear the tires like this and need an alignment so soon?
P.S Also I'm a woman that doesn't know alot about cars so please explain. Thanks!!!
A: because of potholes and hitting curbs. maybe it was out of allignment in the first place before you bought it. cars never stay alligned. strange that its the back tire though. i cant keep my truck in allignment, i always have to get it done. it should only cost you like $100 to have it done.

Everytime I go to turn on my Element it has this sort of grinding sound, the people at Honda say its the relay switch and that I'm turning the switch to slow....Has this happened to anybody......any suggestions....
A: "Turning the switch too slow?" Sounds like a pile of poop to me. Nothing I've experienced with my Element, but go to www.elementownersclub.com and post this questiion on the Problems & Issues forum. EOC is a very active and friendly site with loads of information.

Q: 2006 Honda Element .. you like?
Hello!
I'm thinking about purchasing a new 2006 Honda Element and is wondering how owners feel about this vehicle.
Good Buy? Stay Away?
Qualities? Weaknesses?
Also .. which model would you recommend?
Anything & Everything would be much useful & appreciated!
Thanks :)
A: I dont know whats good and bad about it, but I just dont like it. It looks like a big box on wheels. It just doesnt appeal to me. I also dont like that Scion that also looks like a box on wheels (i think its the xB?)
Sorry, i dont have any recommendations. I'm not a huge fan of compact SUVs.

A: alignment issues are caused by excessive wear of the suspension, etc. OR some sort of jarring/impact/etc. obviously, wear is not the problem, so it is possible you hit a bad pothole, a speedbump too fast, or hit a curb. anything like that can damage a vehicle and ruin the alignment. i would hope the dealer would fix it under warranty, if the service manager wont do it, go to your salesman, or straight to the top person at the dealership. i wouldn't "put up a fight" as much as ask nicely. remember, people are more likely to help you if they like you, and no matter what, you still own a honda, and will probably want to go back to this dealership.
Good Luck

Q: 2004-2006 Honda Element owners? What do you think?
What do you like? Dislike?
A: the vehicle is an extremely practical vehicle and if you're buying it for what it is then you'll find it very reliable and efficient. The vehicle is made to move people with things. Its particularly suited to moving dirty things, like mountain bikes, construction supplies, camping gear etc. in short, its an active vehicle that has a rubber floor and the interior can be cleaned with a garden hose. I know a lot of trades people in the construction industry who are carpenters, painters and masons that have them and love them as do campers, people who ski and mountain bikers.
The do have a lot of open interior space and therefore they are not the quietest vehicle to drive. You'll hear more road noise in an Element than you will in a Pilot or other SUV that has the insulation and carpeting to deaden the noise.
the functionality can't be beat and the vehicle does come in 4-wheel drive. There were tire wear issues and squeek and rattle issues on the early Elements that were corrected on 2005-2006 models, so the later the model the better in terms of solving some minor initial bugs.
its up to you--if you want practical, economical and functional, the Element is a great vehicle; if you want comfort and ride quality, its not up to the standards of a Pilot or any other SUV
Q: Honda Element noise while turning?
I have a 2006 Honda Element and when I make a sharp turn , (such as when I drive my wife to work in a mall and getting in and out of a parking space), I get a low, bassy rumbling sound. I have not felt any sort of vibration or any clicking. Any idea what it could be and how much it could cost to repair?
Thanks.
A: Check the constant velocity joint.
very expensive.
Q: How can I install an extra seat in my Honda Element?
I love my 2006 Element! I need to add an extra seat to it to accomodate a child. Any suggestions?
A: Personally, I think you made a good decision with the Element. We have a CR-V and Isuzu Rodeo. The CR-V is so much nicer to be in than the Rodeo.
Try this: www.jcwhitney.com
I saw a kit in their paper catalog ( a few years ago ) to install an additional bench seat in the back of wagons and SUV's. Not sure if it is still available, not sure what's involved in setting it up. Don't know if you will need to cut or drill holes in the vehicle.
You may need to call them to ask if it is still available. Their website is not the easiest one to use. It does not have all of their products listed on it.
